In the kingdom of the lagoons where the custom wants that only the men can become kings. The young Aïmata Pomaré will break this law. In 1891, the French painter Paul Gauguin leaves Paris and travels to Tahiti to renew his art as a free man, far from the European artistic conventionalism. On his journey of discovery, he faces solitude and disease, but he also knows the beauty of wild nature and the love of Tehura, a young native girl who becomes his wife and model.

パリの宝石店で強盗殺人事件が発生。パリ警視庁特殊捜査チームを率いる刑事セルジュは、事件がかつて逮捕したカスペールの犯行によるものだと直感する。彼とその手下たちを捕らえて調べるものの、決定的な証拠は出ずに釈放せざるを得なくなり、誤認逮捕をしたとしてチームごと事件の捜査から外されてしまう。さらに、セルジュをあざ笑うように同一犯によると思われる新たな強盗事件が起きる。現場に急行したセルジュとチームは犯人たちとはち合せになり、市街地で銃撃戦を繰り広げるが…。

1942年ナチス占領下のパリ、ユダヤ人は胸に黄色い星をつけるよう義務付けられ、公園や映画館、遊園地への立ち入りが禁じられていた。それでも11歳のジョーと家族、隣人たちは、ささやかな暮らしは続くと信じていた。同年7月16日、フランス警察によるユダヤ人一斉検挙が始まり、およそ1万3,000人もの人々がヴェル・ディヴ（冬季競輪場）へと送られる。
