ニューヨーク。老人が雑踏の中、銀行の貸金庫から出してきた小箱を男に手渡した直後、交通事故死した。この事故をマラソン・トレーニング中のベーブは目撃した。ベーブの兄ドクはアメリカ政府機関の男で例の箱を売り込もうとしたが常に命を狙われていた。一方、南米ウルグアイにいるナチの残党ゼルは、老人の事故死を知るやニューヨークへ飛ぶ。ある日ベーブは図書館でエルザと知り合うが公園でデート中２人の男に襲われる。
