東海岸から西海岸まで、アメリカ大陸横断5000キロの公道レース「キャノンボール」が開催されることになった。交通法規も制限速度も無視というこのアウトローレースに、各地から腕自慢、車自慢たちが集結する。JJとビクターのコンビは警察をかわすためニセ救急車でエントリー、日本からはハイテク装備満載のスバルが参戦、さらには自分をロジャー・ムーアと言い張るキザな御曹司も現われて、レースは序盤から大混戦になる。
