1939年11月8日、ミュンヘンにあるビアホールで、ナチス総統のヒトラーは毎年恒例の記念演説を行なったが、悪天候のため、予定より早く演説を切り上げて退席。その13分後、会場に仕掛けられた時限爆弾が爆発し、多くの死傷者が出る非常事態に。秘密警察ゲシュタポは、36歳の家具職人エルザーをヒトラー暗殺未遂の実行犯として逮捕。彼の背後になんらかの組織が関与しているとにらみ、エルザーを厳しく拷問する。

The malevolent spirit feeds on fear and torments the couple no matter where they run.
