菅原文太主演による刑事ドラマ。矢崎達朗は、警視庁特殊銃隊の警部補。特殊銃隊とは銃器を持った凶悪犯に対応するためのライフル部隊のことである。矢崎は、昭和45年のシージャック事件の犯人を射殺した経験を持っている。妻子と幸せな家庭生活をおくっているが、仏壇にシージャック犯の位牌を置き、毎日手を合わせることを忘れていない。職務とはいえ、人を殺したことに苦いこだわりを持っていた。そんな矢崎に再び辛い試練を強いる事件が発生する。
