1974年。フランス人の大道芸人フィリップ・プティは、誰も考えついたことのない挑戦をすることに。それはニューヨークのマンハッタンにそびえ立つ2棟構造の高層ビル、ワールド・トレード・センターの屋上と屋上の間にワイヤーロープを張って命綱なしで渡っていくというものだった。そして、ついに決行の日を迎えるフィリップ。地上110階の高さに浮いているワイヤーを、一歩、また一歩と進んでいく彼だった。
