殺人を犯して記憶喪失におちいった青年・呉一郎は、精神科医・若林のもとで治療を受けていた。若林の言によると、正木敬之という博士が呉一郎の担当医だったが、治療の途中で死亡したという。呉一郎は正木博士の残した論文に目を通すが、気がついたとき、死んだはずの正木博士が現れる…。
