第2次大戦下のイスラエル。アメリカ空軍の大尉デビッドは、友人ピーターから婚約者の女性を紹介された宴席で、彼女の友人という美しい娘サラに出会い、心を奪われる。だが、厳格なユダヤ人家庭に育ったサラと、アメリカ人のデビッドでは国籍も育った環境も違い過ぎると、サラの両親は2人の交際を許そうとしない。それでも忍ぶ恋心を抑えきれない2人だが、そんな矢先デビッドがエジプトに派遣されることになる。
