A First World War veteran reaches a backwater village in Kuttanand, India as a Postman. He delivers money orders and letters to the family of soldiers, becoming a symbol of happiness. But everything turns upside down, as the Second World War begins.

Ottaal (The Trap) is an adaptation of one of Anton Chekhov's timeless works, Vanka. A story of the 18th century, but one that has traveled the time and space to be retold in the present day at a small village in the South of India. Kuttappayi, a young boy, is miserable and desperate as he starts writing a letter to his grandfather from a place, dim and dark. Kuttappayi's recollections takes us to the picturesque locations of Kuttanad, where Kuttappayi and his grandpa, Valiyappachayi, are arriving with their ducks. The village is as pleasant as it can be even though what brings him there is the death of his dearest parents. With hope and freedom, he is about to start his life afresh among the village's letter-less postman, the nameless dog, the rich lad, Tinku and many more.

Dia(Pankaja Menon) heroine of the movie is a management student in Mangalore. She and four of her friends(Catherine, Hashim, Yamini and Chinna Gounder) visits Rajasthan for 15 days to attend a marriage. There she meets a Rajput boy Pavan(Arun Shankar) and falls in love with him. What happens to her there after that in that unknown land makes the content of the film.

The film explores the practice that makes martyrs of the local political activists who are willing to sacrifice their life for ideologies. The film is also a poignant love story of a Meera (Sabitha Jayaraj) and her relentless fight against her own family and society for the man she love.

Sarojini is a housewife who loves taking up social causes. When she comes across Praveen, who is involved in financial wrongdoings, she strives to save the gullible villagers from his influence.

Induchoodan (Ranjith) is the head master of a school. His family consists of his wife Chithra(Meera Vasudev), a son, a daughter and his mother-in-law(Kaviyoor Ponnamma). A friend from past, Harikrishnan(Siddique) visits Induchoodan. It is revealed that Induchoodan was a naxalite in the past and was imprisoned for six years. This triggers flashback to 20 years back.

Inspired by the first case of euthanasia in Oregon, Adbutham revolves around Chandrashekara Warrier, a Malayali man living in the US, who, after a debilitating accident, approaches the court for physician-assisted suicide and is granted approval for the same. Adbutham follows the final hours of Warrier.
