A 1984 Russian film.

В основе сюжета рассказ-интервью об испытаниях нового стратегического ракетаносца Ту-22K и Ту-22М2/М3 (по известным причинам в крупных планах вместо них в фильме снят менее секретный тогда Ту-134 УБЛ — учебно-боевая лаборатория) и трагических событиях, связанных с ними, данный журналисту Одинцову (Юрий Визбор) летчиком-испытателем Боровским (Игорь Ледогоров). Испытания нового реактивного самолета, психология человеческой жизни, проблемы и радости жизни летчиков — все это тесно переплетено в фильме. Герои фильма — друзья летчики-испытатели Долотов (Геннадий Шкуратов) и Санин (Паул Буткевич) — всю жизнь прошагали вместе. Но случилось так, что один из них, Долотов, однажды был несправедливо отстранен от полетов, Санин же не сумел защитить и поддержать своего друга. Дороги друзей разошлись…

Autumn 1944. Wounded scout returns to his home village only to fight with bandits.

Trofim Bessarab has been working as a house painter for all his life. He is a pensioner now and it seems that he can let himself have a rest. But idleness is not for Trofim. His nature is to be a working man and he looks for the way to apply his irrepressible energy, he possesses despite his age.

This film is based on the classic novel of the same name by writer Ivan Franko, one of the most famous figures of Ukrainian literature. It is set during the 1200s and the invasion of the medieval Ukrainian-Russian state of Rus' by Chengis Khan's Golden Horde. Due to its having been produced during the Soviet era, the story's aspect of class-conflict between the "heroic" peasantry and the "decadent" noble particularly emphasized here.

1941. The soldier, a young poet takes the wounded commander out of the battlefield. The commander dies and the soldier is wounded. He was a long way to test before he gets to the guerrilla group. Title in English is "Love Awaits Those Who Return," according to Joshua First in his book UKRAINIAN CINEMA.

Kaminnyi khrest (Stone Cross, 1968) told the powerful story of a proud farmer who decided to emigrate to Canada during the 1890s. The film captured moments shortly before the farmer set off for his voyage and had to say “good-bye” to his native village, friends and relatives. The internal conflict of the farmer in doubt about his decision became the central focus of the film. Like Vasyl Stefanyk’s novella that inspired it, the film is a meditation on the sense of one’s belonging, the sense of one’s own culture and what it means to abandon it.

Four love stories connected by newsreels of the late 60s. Each short story begins with an epigraph taken from the Song of Songs of the Old Testament. The stories are interconnected by documentary shots and numerous interviews taken on the streets from passers-by who are asked the same question: “what does it mean to love?”.
