東京都羽澄市にある古民家で、住人・百瀬うの（田島令子）の刺殺死体が発見された。早朝、現場に向かった警視庁捜査一課の棟居弘一良（東山紀之）と神林武人（きたろう）は、第一発見者である“金髪フィーリア”（加藤夏希）から事情を聴く。彼女は被害者の義理の孫娘で、本名は“夏目初子”。うのの隣に住んでおり、元歌手という知名度を生かし、駅裏でバーを開いているという。フィーリアは前夜、店からうのの元に何度か電話をかけたが、応答がないため心配になって戻って来たところ、祖母の死体を見つけたと話す。

Yusuke Mito, a law faculty lecturer who did not become a lawyer even though he passed the bar exam, the famous lawyer Kojiro Otomo who advocates the abolition of the death penalty, and the public prosecutor Mariko Nagase studied law together. Each have their own thoughts about the death penalty. One day, Otomo’s wife is murdered by someone. Shinzo Sabae who is resentful of a lawsuit that Otomo had been in charge of, is arrested as a suspect. Otomo reverses the stance he had had until now and seeks the death penalty against Sabae. This prompts Mito to make the decision to become a lawyer and stand in the court. 『ルパンの消息』（ルパンのしょうそく）は、日本の小説家・推理作家である横山秀夫のデビュー作である。2008年9月21日にWOWOWのドラマWで映像化され放送された。1990年（平成2年）12月。忘年会に出席していた某警察署の署長、後閑耕造（ごかん こうぞう）のもとにある知らせが届く。それは15年前に起きた高校女性教師自殺事案について、ある人物の密告（タレコミ）により殺人である可能性が浮上したので至急署に来るようにとの呼び出しだった。一方、喜多芳夫は突然警察官に署に来いと命じられ、反抗するも強制的に連れて行かれる。取調室で問われたのは昔、悪仲間三人で企てた「ルパン作戦」なる期末テストを奪う作戦についてだった。
