ジョージア州の田舎町で前代未聞の集中豪雨が発生。その暴風のせいで切断されていた送電線が地表に落下したことから、大量の電気が地中へと放電されていく。一夜明け、ニューヨークから恋人が訪ねてきたミックはゴカイの大群に遭遇。ゴカイたちは何かに突き動かされるように、人間を襲い、町を飲み込んでゆくのだった…。
