イギリス北東部ニューカッスルで大工として働く59歳のダニエル・ブレイクは、心臓の病を患い医者から仕事を止められる。国の援助を受けようとするが、複雑な制度が立ちふさがり必要な援助を受けることが出来ない。悪戦苦闘するダニエルだったが、シングルマザーのケイティと二人の子供の家族を助けたことから、交流が生まれる。貧しいなかでも、寄り添い合い絆を深めていくダニエルとケイティたち。しかし、厳しい現実が彼らを次第に追いつめていく。
