とあるヨーロッパの王国。光に憧れるドブネズミのロスキューロは、城内に忍び込んだ際、女王に振る舞われたスープの中へ落ちてしまい、女王をショック死させ、地下牢へ追放されてしまう。一方、小さく痩せっぽちで、ひときわ耳の大きなハツカネズミのデスペローは、音楽と本を愛し、自由奔放に城内の生活を満喫していた。そんなある日、母親を亡くし悲しみに暮れるピー姫に恋心を抱いたデスぺローも、人間に恋をした罪で地下牢へと追放されてしまう。さらに、ロスキューロは姫の座を夢見る召使のミグと手を組み、ピー姫を誘拐する。それぞれの想いが巡る中、デスペローは、ピー姫の救出に立ち上がる！

舞台は19世紀ヨーロッパのとある小さな村。成金の魚屋のヴァン・ドート夫妻の息子ヴィクターと没落貴族であるエヴァーグロット夫妻の娘ヴィクトリアとの政略結婚が親同士で進められていた。お互い一度も面識もない人と結婚することを不安に思っていたが結婚式前日、リハーサルのために初対面した２人は互い好意を抱く。しかし緊張したヴィクターはリハーサルで失敗を連発し怒った牧師に式の延期を言い渡されてしまう。困った彼は人気のない夜の森で結婚式の練習をしているとき目前に突き出ていた枯れ枝のようなものを花嫁の薬指に見たて指輪をはめたことから大変な事態に巻き込まれる。

The film follows the interwoven lives of residents in a London tenement block whose interactions have knock on effects on each other. If they had the time to show compassion and patience , perhaps they would not be so Stressed.
