スイスらしき村のスタジオで、ポーランド人監督のジェルジーやハンガリー出身のプロデューサー・ラズロらの撮影スタッフは、「パッション」という作品をビデオ撮影していた。その作品は、レンブラントやドラクロワの名画を、俳優たちに様々な扮装をさせたり裸でカメラの前で静止させたりして再現するというもの。だが、監督が光の具合に不満を露わにしてNGを連発したり、予算超過で製作中止の危機に陥っていた。ジェルジーは工場従業員のイザベルとホテルの女主人ハンナの間で揺れながら作品を完成させようと模索するが…。
