After returning home from a traumatic tour of duty in Iraq, John finds himself struggling with PTSD. Herb Hamrol was born in 1903. He survived the 1906 Earthquake and Fires that destroyed San Francisco. He still works at a local supermarket and lives by himself. As he prepares to attend the 1906 Earthquake centennial commemoration on April 18, 2006 together with a group of living Earthquake survivors, he tries to come to terms with the death of his wife, to whom he was married forty years and has outlived her almost the same amount of time.
