美しい娘ベルは進歩的な考え方が原因で閉鎖的な村人たちとなじめないことに悩んでいたが、ある日、彼女は野獣と遭遇する。彼は魔女の呪いによって変身させられた王子で魔女が残したバラの花びらがすべて散ってしまう前に誰かと相思相愛の仲にならなければ元の姿に戻れない。ベルは野獣の恐ろしい外見にたじろぎながらも心惹かれていく。
