「優しく殺す」をモットーにする殺し屋ジャッキー・コーガン（ブラッド・ピット）は、ドライバーと呼ばれるエージェント（リチャード・ジェンキンス）から賭博場強盗の黒幕を捜す依頼を受ける。彼は前科のあるマーキー（レイ・リオッタ）を捜し出したものの、強盗を仕組んだのは別の悪党3人組であることが判明。さまざまな思惑が複雑に絡み合う中、ジャッキーは事件に関わった者を皆殺しにすることを決める。
