第1次世界大戦の激戦地から帰還した作家ブルー（アラン）は妻ダフネと暮らし、2人の間には息子クリストファー・ロビン（ビリー）が生まれるが、戦場で受けた心の傷を引きずり静かに生活したいと望むブルーの希望で、一家とビリーのナニー（ベビーシッター）であるオリーヴ（ヌー）は地方のサセックスに引っ越す。執筆活動に戻れないブルーは、ビリーから“僕のための作品を”と頼まれ、クマを主人公にした物語を思い付いていく。
