In the 1830's emigrants from Salem, Massachusetts fled their satanic legacy and came to settle in LaSalle County,Illinois. They brought along with them some of their more unpleasant, unsavory past. There were plain wars between settlers and Indians and whites put together a massacre and mass buried them in what became the cemetery. The Moon family were the curators of the plots. 郊外の住宅街に住む主婦のサラは、近所の公園で司法試験の合格を目指す子連れの主夫ブラッドと出会った。いつしかお互いに惹かれあい、気持ちを抑えきれなくなっていくふたり。そんな中、街では元受刑者のロニーが釈放され問題となっていた。ブラッドの友人で元警官のラリーは、子供たちを守るためにロニーを糾弾するビラを街中に貼りまわる。それぞれが日常から少しずつはみ出した行動をとりはじめる街の人々。それはまさに“大人になりきれない大人たち”の行動。やがて街は大きな事件に巻き込まれていく…。
