Yoko Okumura is a Japanese-American writer, director, and performer based in Los Angeles, California. Born in a Buddhist temple in Japan and raised in the frostbite of Minneapolis, Yoko is genre-fluid. She has a BFA in Film/Video from CALARTS and an MFA in Film Directing from the American Film Institute.

This is a film about my family. My father is a Japanese buddhist monk. He is the head of a small temple in Bloomington, Indiana where he lives with my mother and my brother. My father became ordained at the young age of 22 and have since sat in meditation for over 30,000 hours of his life. At the age of 22 my brother lives at home with them and looks for his own purpose. The apple may appear far from the tree but it seems when it comes to searching for purpose we are all the same.
