1930年、上海。町の顔役であるタンのもとで働く叔父のリュウを頼ってこの町にやって来た少年シュイション。タンはアヘンと売春組織を支配することで町を牛耳っていた。シュイションは、タンがその権力の象徴として囲っている愛人で上海一の歌姫チンパオの召使として働くことになるが……。退廃した30年代の上海を舞台に、この町のギャング社会を背景にしながら、少年の視線から1人の女性の運命の変転を静かに見つめたドラマ。
