略歴

Tôn-Thất Tiết’s music has a special language in which both oriental and occidental trends are fused, although the inspiration and thoughts are drawn basically from oriental sources. This is obvious in many of his works such as Kiêm Ai (Universal Love), (1978) for choir and orchestra, Le Jeu des Cinq Eléments (The Game of the Five Elements), (1982–1990), or Prajnaparamita (the basic sutra of Buddhism) for 6 voices and instrumental ensemble, (1988) and Chu Ky, a series of seven instrumental pieces.

Tôn-Thât Tiêt… and the River Flows...
Himself
An intimate portrait of the man, the composer, and his connection to the two rivers of his life: the Sông Hương (Perfume River) in his home city of Huế, and the Marne River near Paris, where he has been living for nearly four decades.
The Vertical Ray of the Sun
Music
Hanoi comes across almost picture-perfect in director Tran Anh Hung's beautiful, elegiac tale about the lives and loves of three Vietnamese sisters. A mood characteristic of Hung's films is set early on with the vivid sounds of birds, insects and water and the way the lighting enhances the subtle use of color. They all combine to gem-like effect here.
Cyclo
Music
Follows a young cyclo (bicycle cab) driver on his poverty-driven descent into criminality in modern-day Ho Chi Minh City. The boy's struggles to scratch out a living for his two sisters and grandfather in the mean streets of the city lead to petty crime on behalf of a mysterious Madame from whom he rents his cyclo.
The Scent of Green Papaya
Music
A Vietnamese servant girl, Mui, observes lives within two different Saigon families: the first, a woman textile seller with three boys and a frequently absent husband; the second, a handsome young pianist with his fiancée.
