Stevie, fresh from prison in Scotland, finds a job on a London construction site. The working conditions are poor and most of the men are working under aliases, due to immigration status and to not conflict with their "signing on" for unemployment benefits. Some coworkers help Stevie secure housing, squatting in a council estate. Then Stevie meets Susan, from Ireland, who's struggling to be a professional singer.
Strand, Under the Dark Cloth

Although his influence on the history of photography has been nothing short of profound, Paul Strand (1890-1976) remains a curiously shrouded and paradoxical figure. While passionately devoted to humanity, he was happiest in the isolation of the dark room. A pioneer filmmaker (Manhatta, Native Land, Heart of Spain, The Wave), he found the process of collaboration painful. Strand established himself in New York in the 1920's as a master of light and structure, with his now famous photo of Wall Street inspired by the forms and movement of European modernist painters such as Matisse and Picasso. His closeup portraits and landscapes were equally profound. John Walker's Strand.
One Every Mile!

“Fear enters the management style.” Banned by McDonalds, this Channel 4 film has never been shown before. After working in McDonalds, Jane Gabriel was given full access to film the McDonalds outlet which held the world record for the amount of money taken in one hour, and to Hamburger University in London. This observational documentary reveals why McDonald employees run, and how the shouting and the “warm fuzzies” and “cold pricklies” affect the employees. They describe what it’s like inside McDonalds as it plans to open a new McDonalds in the UK every mile for the next 25 years.
