A man who has just deposited a will with a notary is run over by a car. As his overcoat bears the name and address of Emile Blondin on a label, the police go there and discover that the dead man is not Emile Blondin. But this one is soon discovered murdered. The police then became interested in Georges Blondin, the victim's brother, whose goddaughter, Juliette, was also the notary's secretary.
In 1939, in a maternity ward, a young man visits his mistress who has just given birth to a little girl. He tells her that he is married and that for him the outcome of this adventure was not really planned. The mobilization separates them but the young man will end up divorcing and with the relentless help of a friend, will find his mistress and his child and will be able to marry her in spite of the chaos of the war.
Sergeant Jacques Destranges randomly finds a little friend from the summer. She runs an inn where the company finds good wine and songs. Jacques makes plans for the future with her while his companions relive their peacetime memories.
