ニューヨーク・マンハッタンのアパートに、大好きな飼い主ケイティと住むテリア犬のマックス。彼は散歩に行くと見せかけて連れてこられた病院で行動障害の専門医に診てもらうことに。自分に行動障害があると思ってもいなかったマックスは疑問をいだくが、待合室にいた猫が「おかしいのは人間の方」とマックスに話しかけ、飼い主がペットたちの本当の気持ちに気付いていないことを指摘する。
