本町奉行所に勤める同心・渡辺小五郎（東山紀之）のもとに岡っ引きの亥ノ吉（岸優太）が飛び込んできた。サボってばかりの小五郎を見かねた与力の増村倫太郎（生瀬勝久）があてがった仕事熱心な正義漢だ。亥ノ吉は町娘に乱暴を働こうとした岸田藤十郎（木村了）をしょっ引いてきたのだが、その顔を見た増村はあわてて後は奉行所に任せろとその場を収める。同じ頃、経師屋の涼次（松岡昌宏）は表の仕事で旧知の絵師・才三（西畑大吾）と再会する。口下手で内向的な性格ながら、涼次も認める画才の持ち主だ。だが、才三の胸には涼次も知らない熱い思いが秘められていた……。

Even though there is no direct evidence that Yoshie killed the three men, people and media suspect Yoshie killed the men. Yoshie's testimony is unexpected.
