Yūko Tanaka

Tomiko, a middle-aged woman, waits patiently for her husband, who disappeared thirty years ago, to return. She lives alone in a declining fishing village, and continues to search tirelessly for her husband. One day she meets Nami, whose husband has also disappeared.

1945年の夏。軍の密命を受けた京都帝国大学・物理学研究室の若き科学者・石村修（柳楽優弥）と研究員たちは原子核爆弾の研究開発を進めていた。研究に没頭する日々の中、建物疎開で家を失なった幼馴染の朝倉世津（有村架純）が修の家に居候することに。時を同じくして、修の弟・裕之（三浦春馬）が戦地から一時帰郷し、久しぶりの再会を喜ぶ3人。ひとときの幸せな時間の中で、戦地で裕之が負った深い心の傷を垣間見る修と世津だが、一方で物理学に魅了されていた修も、その裏側にある破壊の恐ろしさに葛藤を抱えていた。そんな二人を力強く包み込む世津はただ一人、戦争が終わった後の世界を見据えていた。それぞれの想いを受け止め、自分たちの未来のためと開発を急ぐ修と研究チームだが、運命の8月6日が訪れてしまう。日本中が絶望に打ちひしがれる中、それでも前を向く修が見出した新たな光とはーー？

In 1964, Momoko came by herself to Tokyo from her hometown. She met Shūzō and married him. They raised two children together, but Shūzō suddenly passes away. Momoko is dumbfounded by being alone again. She begins to go to the library and borrows books. This changes her life.

A family reunites after 15 years. They each have a story to tell as they have not forgotten what happened years ago.

In the early days of the Showa era in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture a newborn baby is abandoned with a doll under the eaves of a merchant house along the pilgrimage route in Shikoku. It seems to be a pilgrim struggling to make a living. This baby girl is named Haruko and brought by Tomita Shizuko and Katsuji as the younger sister of their son Ryosuke who is three years apart. When the war begins, 16-year old Ryosuke qualifies for the naval academy and crosses the Seto Inland Sea. After some consideration, Shizuko tells Haruko the truth that they are not real siblings for the first time. Haruko who has had a secret crush on her brother ever since he said that he would protect her, is innocently overjoyed and heads to Hiroshima to convey this to him. The next day, an atomic bomb explodes in the sky…

東日本大震災に伴う福島第一原子力発電所事故によって、先祖代々受け継いできた土地を失ってしまった一家。そこを離れて、未来を想像することすらできない毎日を送っていた彼らの前に、２０年ほど前に故郷を飛び出したまま連絡すらしてこなかった次男が現れる。戸惑う家族を尻目に、彼は一人で苗を育てては、誰もいない田んぼにそれを植えていく。その姿に長男と母親は故郷で生きていく彼の決意を感じ取り、バラバラであった彼らの心と絆が少しずつ再生されていく。

昭和63年、山口県下関市。17歳の高校生・篠垣遠馬は、父親の円、その年若い愛人・琴子と一緒に暮らす毎日。暴力的な円はセックスのときに相手の女を殴る癖があり、遠馬の実母の仁子はそんな夫に愛想を尽かして早くに家を出て、ひとり鮮魚商を営んでいたが、円の現在の愛人・琴子は、顔や体をあざだらけにされながらもそれに黙って耐えていた。遠馬は、いつか自分も忌み嫌う父親の性癖を受け継ぐのではないかと内心恐れを抱く。

戦時中、監督作「陸軍」が戦意高揚映画でないと軍部からマークされてしまった木下恵介は、次回作の製作が中止となってしまう。そんな状況にうんざりした彼は松竹に辞表を出し、脳溢血で倒れた母たまが治療を行っている浜松へと向かう。戦況はますます悪化し山間地へと疎開すると決めた恵介は、体の不自由な母をリヤカーに乗せ１７時間に及ぶ山越えをする。

名優・高倉健が、降旗康男監督とコンビを組んだ20本目で、高倉健の遺作となった作品。 富山の刑務所で指導教官を務める倉島英二に、亡くなった妻・洋子から届いた絵手紙。そこには今まで知らされることの無かった“故郷の海に散骨して欲しい”という洋子の想いが記されていた。その真意を知るために、故郷へ向けて車で一人旅を始める英二。その旅は富山[4]から始まり飛騨高山、京都、瀬戸内、下関、北九州市門司区、そして洋子の故郷である長崎県平戸の漁港・薄香へと続く。風光明媚な地で出会うさまざまな人々と、さまざまな人生。出会いと別れ。そしてそれは英二が洋子の深い愛情に改めて気付かされる旅でもあった。

Minako (TANAKA Yuko), begins her day running up and down the hills of her hometown delivering milk door to door. When that's done, she heads to her day job as a supermarket cashier. Minako is 50 and single. In one of the houses to which she delivers milk is a man with whom she has secretly been in love since high school. The man, Keita (KISHIBE Ittoku), lives with his wife Yoko, who is terminally ill. Caring for her at home, he works in the children's affairs section of the local municipal office. Though he insists that he wants nothing more than an "ordinary" existence, his life is in turmoil below the surface. The director uses a variety of narrative devises to portray the loneliness, isolation, and hope of these people who have seemingly allowed their goals and dreams to slip away, whilst keeping them agonizingly close to hand.
