1983年、当時はまだソビエト連邦を構成する共和国の一つで、国外への渡航の自由など許されていなかったグルジア。裕福な家庭に生まれ育ち、ビートルズのレコードなどを通じて西側世界の文化に触れた青年のニカは、まだ見ぬ西側諸国に強烈な憧れを抱くように。かくして彼は、恋人のアンナや友人たちと新婚旅行の団体客を装って飛行機に乗り込み、上空で飛行機をハイジャックすると、そのまま国外へ渡航しようと試みる。
