40代のチャーリーはボーイフレンドのアランを亡くして以来、過食と引きこもり生活を続けたせいで健康を損なってしまう。アランの妹で看護師のリズに助けてもらいながら、オンライン授業の講師として生計を立てているが、心不全の症状が悪化しても病院へ行くことを拒否し続けていた。自身の死期が近いことを悟った彼は、8年前にアランと暮らすために家庭を捨ててから疎遠になっていた娘エリーに会いに行くが、彼女は学校生活や家庭に多くの問題を抱えていた。

雪に覆われた田舎町ビーバーフィールドに赴任した森林警備員フィンは、町に1軒だけの小さなホテルに滞在し、郵便配達員セシリーの案内で変わり者ぞろいの住人たちに挨拶して回る。翌朝、農場を営むトリッシュが、何者かに殺された愛犬を抱えてホテルに駆け込んでくる。他の住人たちも様子をうかがいにホテルに集まってくる中、今度はホテルオーナーであるジャニーンの夫が死体となって発見される。その死体には喰いちぎられた跡と、人間のものではない毛が付着していた。警察に通報しようとするフィンだったが、猛吹雪により道路は封鎖、しかも町の発電機はすべて破壊されていた。
