11世紀イングランド、母親を亡くした少年ロブは弟妹と離れ離れになり、各地を旅して回る理容外科医に引き取られる。やがて成長したロブは医師を志すようになり、医学が発達した異国ペルシアのイスファハンへ旅立つ。数々の困難に見舞われながらも目的地に到着したロブは、世界的にも著名な医師イブン・シーナに弟子入りし貪欲に医学修業に励む。
