国際会議に出席するためフィンランドの首都ヘルシンキに向かって飛行中の米大統領専用機エアフォースワンとその護衛機が、何者かが発射した地対空ミサイルで撃墜された。米国大統領のムーアは間一髪ポッドに乗って脱出し難を逃れる。ムーアの乗ったポッドはフィンランドの森の中に着地。彼は誕生日を迎え、一人前の男となる試練に挑むフィンランド人の少年オスカリと出会う。だが、ムーアの命を狙う敵が近づきつつあった。

As the Olympic Games draws near the situation becomes more desperate. Annika Bengtzon, a reporter for Kvällsposten, se a connection that no one else sees and without understanding it she starts a carousel that in the end will threaten her own life.

Olof lives alone on his family's farm after the death of his mother. Unable to read and write, he is dependent on his younger friend, Erik, who helps him in the afternoons. Once a sailor, Erik brags of having known hundreds of women. Out of the blue, Olof advertises in the local paper for a young lady housekeeper, and Ellen, a middle-class city woman, arrives to take over the house and, as the summer goes on, Olof's heart and Erik's desire as well.
