It all starts when Mrinmoy Ghosh (Kaushik Sen), the powerful head police officer in Hatimara, Jalpaiguri, known for hunting down Naxal insurgents in his area, is found dead at his residence. Here enters the policeman Robin Dutt (Vinay Pathak) who tries to trace Ankur, but in vain. The story then moves onto a group of friends partying and having a good time, where Robin who is one of the guests narrates the story of Ankur and Rimli to his friends. How each one of them make their own interpretations as to what happened to Ankur makes the movie an interesting watch.

The film is set in Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose's home in Falta, West Bengal, masquerading as Uttarpara. It deals with the story of a girl Anandi and her family (including uncle, brother, parents and sister), lover (brother's friend Babua) and few neighbours. Nature, tradition and love are Anandi's pillars of support in difficult times. Her brother will slowly drift away with bad or risky companies, will not return home one day, and will be lost forever.
