In Northern Norway during the 1860s, a little girl named Dina accidentally causes her mother's death. Overcome with grief, her father refuses to raise her, leaving her in the care of the household servants. Dina grows up wild and unmanageable, with her only friend being the stable boy, Tomas. She summons her mother's ghost and develops a strange fascination with death as well as a passion for living.

A mysterious stranger, Meisner, arrives in a northern Swedish town in 1820, calling himself a magnetist - an amalgam of hypnotist and healer - and claiming he can cure diseases un-treatable by doctors. Ignoring the objections of his colleagues, Dr. Selander allows Meisner to cure his blind daughter, Maria, who not only regains her sight, but also falls in love with the charismatic magnetist. Dark secrets and repressed memories start to emerge, amidst the love between father and daughter, man and woman.

In 1950s Copenhagen, Jens is a law student with a part-time job in a law firm. He lives at home and is more or less engaged to Lis. Jens' life is very regular and organized until he meets slightly older Erhard, a head clerk at the firm. Erhard lures Jens into the mysterious city nightlife, and from now on, Jens' life changes. The engagement is broken off and his education is neglected.

Izabella Scorupco plays Carla, who is a con-artist somewhere in mediavel Sweden. Carla is disguised as a man and she is selling a "product" called Petri tårar (Tears of St. Peter). This product cures every sickness. In order to promote her product she promises to wake up from the dead all citizens of the town who have died within the last ten years. Both the bishop and the mayor are alarmed as they fear loss of influence over them and try to work against Carla. There are also many citizens who don't want to see their "loved ones" wake up from the dead. In order to make things more confusing, Carla and the son of the mayor, Mark, fall in love with each other.

ある夜、市内の公園で二つの事件が同時に起きた。ひとつは中年女性が暴漢に襲われ店の売り上げを奪われた事件、もうひとつはまだ幼い少女が暴行された上に殺された事件だった。だが少女殺しの手掛かりはまったく無いまま第二の犠牲者が出てしまう。焦るベックは中年女性を襲った犯人が少女殺しを目撃しているのではないかと推測、折しも市内に潜伏していると見られた脱走犯がその暴漢である事が判明する。銃撃戦の果てに逮捕された脱走犯の証言によって少女殺しのモンタージュが作られ、警官を総動員した聞き込み捜査が開始されるのだが……。

運河の工事中、水門の底から若く美しい女性の全裸死体が発見された。捜査にあたったベックたちは、その女性がロゼアンナというアメリカ人観光客であるという事、エンジンの故障で運河に停泊中だった観光船に彼女が乗っていた事を突き止める。おそらく船上で殺され水門に投げ込まれたのだろう。そして容疑者は、船客の撮影した８ミリに写っていたひとりの男に絞られた。男の化けの皮を剥ぐためにベックは婦人警官を使った囮捜査を準備する。だがそれは、普段は几帳面で温厚な男の本性を暴くためというには、あまりにも危険な手段であった……。

Traberg, like Udenrigskorrespondenten, is an experiment in fiction consisting of placing a character or a fictional sketch into a set of surroundings and seeing what happens. Moreover, for most of the film the surroundings are the same, namely the chaotic reality of Haiti. Ebbe Traberg plays Traberg, a mystical character who cannot be explained psychologically and whose seemingly covert activities care only hinted at in pictures.

The movie begins with the Jönsson gang making a minor burglary. It goes wrong and the gang leader, Sickan, gets caught. After he has spent 10 months in jail, Vanheden and Rocky come to welcome him when he's released. But he doesn't take notice of them, and he's picked up by the mysterious banker Wall-Enberg Jr. instead. He wants Sickan to perform a burglary in Switzerland, in order to retrieve the famous Bedford Diamonds. Sickan does this but is fooled by Wall-Enberg and nearly gets caught. When he returns to Sweden and re-unites with his old gang members, he's set on revenge, both physically and psychologically...
