High school student Yuki suffers from a chronic disease and has lost hope for living. One day she has a life-changing encounter with Aki, her destructive classmate with a beautiful singing voice. Together they decide to form a band with Yusuke who secretly has feelings for Yuki.
Haruko is a single mother. She has an unusual living arrangement. She lives with her son Riku, her friend Aiko and Aiko's boyfriend Sorao. One day, Yuko stays at Haruko's house to attend an art institute for the summer. Yuko is the daughter of Haruko's old friend Tomoyo. They haven't spoken for many years prior to Tomoyo reaching out to Haruko to ask if her daughter could stay with her for the summer. Haruko and Tomoyo have an uncomfortable past.
The Okura family has 650 years of history as performers of Japan's traditional stage art, Kyogen. One winter, Motonari Okura and his son, Yasunari, head off to undertake training in an isolated mountain resort. Motonari is determined to get Yasunari accustomed to the strict regime which includes rehearsing and cleaning. Yasunari is hurt by his father's severe attitude and almost gives up on training. One day, they are visited by an old friend and his granddaughter, Sakiko.
