A naive village girl, Ani (Ayu Azhari), takes a job in a karaoke club in the city after meeting Susana (Yurike Prastica). Actually, Ani’s main reason for taking the job in the city is the hope that she will somehow meet up with Rudy (James Sahertian), a childhood friend. At the karaoke club, Ani attracts unwanted affections from the owner, Robert (Torro Margens). Ani escapes this dilemma when she does, finally, find Rudy. Together, they set up a small business selling ready-made clothes. Robert refuses to give up. He sends some men to beat up Rudy, and even assigns Susana to try to break up Rudy and Ani. Susana is successful. Ani then goes to work with Prasetyo (Willy Dozan), whom she met when she was in the garment business. The relationship between Ani and Prasetyo becomes serious, and they marry. However, Rudy, who is living with Susana, attempts to blackmail Ani with his knowledge of her past involvement with the karaoke club.

Sasongko impregnates Corry, a university student who works in his office, and refuses to take responsibility. Corry is expelled from the house Sasongko had given her by his wife Mrs. Sasongko. Then, 18 years later, Sonny, Corry’s son, who has been taught to hate his father although he was never told his name, starts looking for him. In the meantime, Prasetyo, a respected businessman, who has a harmonious family, is in the midst of constructing a large building for his wife. Before the construction can be completed, cement prices skyrocket due to a shortage of supplies, and Prasetyo needs more money than expected to keep the work going. He seeks the assistance of Nur to find funds. Nur succeeds in getting a loan from Sasongko, who now heads a powerful conglomerate.

Reminiscent of the Rocky film starring Sylvester Stallone, Rio has to use his fists to make a living as an illegal parking man. When the parking area is taken over by the local government, Rio loses his livelihood. Mursali then helps him by offering his taxi for driving at night. Again he has to use his fists on this new job, but when he meets Lia, she advises Rio to become a boxer. So he goes to Oom Eddy’s boxing gym and his career takes off. But Lia distracts him from his training and his fights. He also forgets about his girlfriend in the village, Sinta (Ayu Azhari). His losing streak begins and then Lia dies during an abortion. So Rio goes back to his village. Oom Eddy and Rio’s friends try to lift his spirit up again. Then Rio returns to the boxing ring, and is victorious once more.

Iwan, a high school student, loses his bajaj-driver father because the jeep of Dance Lintang, a famous singer, runs him down. Iwan’s pregnant mother has to work hard. Iwan has been singing on the streets for money, and now he gets help from his younger siblings who sell newspapers. But his mother passes away when she gives birth to her last child so Iwan vows to raise his siblings. But when he cannot afford it, he puts his siblings in the orphanage. Then when his girlfriend Tia yells at him for doing that, he instinctively runs off with his siblings. He is imprisoned as a result but a journalist, Miftah, who knows his talent, bails him out. Iwan decides to quit school and Miftah manages to record him. Dance is furious when he hears that Iwan is making a record. He approaches the producer and destroys the recording tape. Then Dance gets arrested for narcotics while Iwan’s record is a major hit, so he brings his siblings home from the orphanage.

Sumiati lets her husband marry Yati because she cannot bear a child. But when Yati delivers, Sumiati is pregnant and gives birth to Mira. Mira’s presence worries Yati. Therefore Yati accuses Sumiati of cheating. Sumiati leaves the house. Mira learns of this history as Yati always insults her when she asks for her monthly allowance. There is more tension when Rachmat, who is matched to Yati’s daughter, Neneng, is more attracted to Mira. By chance, Mira repeatedly catches Yati having affairs. Her father is furious. Then Yati runs away with the fortune and the child of her affair. Neneng, who stays, commits suicide. Her father realises his mistake and reconciles with Sumiati. Rachmat has also come back for Mira.

Karmila (Tanty Josepha), a final year student at the Faculty of Medicine, is engaged to Edo (Rudy Salam) who is studying abroad. In a youth party, Karmila is trapped by Feisal (Robby Sugara), a bad boy who then rapes her. Karmila is willing to marry Feisal on the condition that after the baby is born and old enough, he will divorce. She stayed with her aunt until she gave birth and was curt, not taking care of the baby. Meanwhile, Feisal has the opposite attitude because he is sorry and loves Karmila. The son then followed his father and Karmila continued his studies until the end. During a party to go abroad, Karmila was told that her child was sick. Karmila comes to check. Her heart melted, and she canceled her abroad and chose to be a good wife for Feisal, so she had two children. He refused Edo who returned from abroad.

Ateng has felt how difficult it is to live with his stepmother. He is often being shouted at and even gets slapped. His father never stands by him. The village people are impressed to see the appearance of Iskak, Ateng’s old friend, who has just returned from Jakarta. This causes Ateng to yearn to leave for the capital city. And so Ateng joins Iskak. Once they arrive in Jakarta, their bags are stolen. Apparently Iskak has been talking big, as it is difficult for him to find a job. Ateng feels miserable in the capital city. He has been beaten up, starved and tricked. Ateng feels the capital city is crueler than his stepmother.

This tribulation grows when their laundry is stolen until their child, Girl (Dewi Yull), must be a slave in the house of Renggo nobleman (Deddy Sutomo) whose clothes they remove. Here the girls meet with Jaka (Ray Sahetapy), who recently passed Mosvia and was assigned in the area. This love story did not go well, especially with the background of the eviction of a village conducted by Renggo in order to meet the demands of the plantation director who wants to expand his land.
