1945年6月3日、沖縄最北端の離島、伊平屋（いへや）島では、米軍の上陸を受け全島民が降伏した。突然の平和が訪れたこの島には、実は、身を隠した日本の将校がいた。海軍少尉・飯井敏雄、22歳。島民たちとの触れ合いは、飯井の、そして上陸したアメリカ兵の心をも動かしてゆく。敵・味方をこえた何かが生まれようとしていた・・・、だが、玉音放送後の特攻、「ラスト・アタック」で全てが断ち切られてしまう。

ある日、福井県・翡翠浜で国籍不明の潜水艦が座礁した。さっそく福井県警と機動隊が駆けつけて艦内を調査したところ、そこには数丁の大型銃器と銃殺されたと思われる死体が残されていた。潜水艦の発見現場・敦賀半島は3つの原子力発電所を構える地域でもあり、周囲に緊張が走る。一方、首相官邸や警察庁では少ない情報に混乱が生じていた。そんな中、福井県警が潜水艦の乗組員らしき男を捕獲。取り調べの結果、北東人民共和国特殊作戦部隊11人が重火器を携え侵入したことが判明する。一刻の猶予も許されない状況に、首相・諸橋挨一郎の決断が迫られていたが…。

She is sent back to the American Base Victory Hospital, where the diagnosis is lymphatic leukemia. And she has no more than a year left to live. Her parents agree with the doctor that Sadako should not be told, but will she find out anyway ?
