映画「チャイニーズ・ゴースト・ストーリー」の物語の題材となった「聊斎志異」の作者・蒲松齢を映画の主人公に据え、新たに生み出された壮大なファンタジーアクション。大樹の妖怪たる黒山は、その魔力を封じられ、〈生〉〈老〉〈病〉〈死〉の門を守る4人の女妖霊たちによって、千年間、封印される運命に。しかし彼の霊力を吹き込まれた筆を手にした作家の蒲松齢が、せっせと怪異小説を書き上げることによって封印されていた門の扉が次々と開かれ、黒山の魔力が復活。それを再び封じ込めるべく、天女は、蒲松齢の妻・瓶娘の体を借りて彼の前に現われ、かくして蒲松齢も黒山と対決することとなる。
