ニューヨーク、ブルックリンに暮らす貧しいイタリア系青年のトニー。安い給料で面白くもない仕事、ゴタゴタばかりの家庭と、冴えない日常を送る彼は、土曜の夜になると着飾ってディスコに繰り出し、踊りまくることで日頃の鬱憤を晴らしていた。そんなある日、彼はディスコで新顔の女性ステファニーと出会う。そのダンスの腕前に魅了されたトニーは彼女をパートナーに誘い、ディスコダンス・コンテストの優勝を目指すのだが……。
