デンマークの郊外で両親や3歳年上の姉カロリーネと平和に暮らす、サッカー好きの11歳の少女エマ。けれどもある日、姉妹を前にして、両親が離婚することを突然宣言。その原因は、これからは女性として生きていきたいという父親のカミングアウトにあった。以後、ホルモン治療によって父親は日ごとに女性化し、名前もトマスからアウネーテへと変化。事態を冷静に受け止める姉とは対照的に、エマは当惑といらだちを隠し切れず……。

貧しい農民の両親とつつましく暮らす少年シャールヴィは、雷神トールやロキによってオーディンを主神とする神の国“アスガルド”の宮殿“ヴァルハラ”に連れて行かれるが、シャールヴィの妹ロスクヴァもついて来る。そこで兄妹は奴隷のように扱われ、それに嫌気が差したロスクヴァは、シャールヴィや友人になった小さな巨人クォークと宮殿から逃げ出すが、シャールヴィは“アスガルド”と対立する巨人の国に拉致されてしまい……。
