ゲイのカップルであるエリックとアンドリュー、そして養女のウェンの家族が山小屋で穏やかな休日を過ごしていると、突如として武装した見知らぬ謎の男女4人が訪れ、家族は訳も分からぬまま囚われの身となってしまう。そして謎の男女たちは家族に、「いつの世も選ばれた家族が決断を迫られた」「家族のうちの誰か1人が犠牲になることで世界の終末を止めることができる」「拒絶することは何十万もの命を奪うことになる」と告げ、エリックとアンドリューらに想像を絶する選択を迫ってくる。テレビでは世界各国で起こり始めた甚大な災害が報じられるが、訪問者の言うことをにわかに信じることができない家族は、なんとか山小屋からの脱出を試みるが……。
