外国の脅威が迫る幕末の世。安中藩主・板倉勝明は藩士を鍛えるため、15里の山道を走る遠足を開催することに。しかし行き違いによって幕府への反逆とみなされてしまい、安中藩取り潰しを狙う刺客が藩士不在の城に送り込まれる。遠足参加中に藩の危機を知った安中藩士の唐沢甚内は、計画を阻止するべく走り出す。
