In 1980, Queens, New York, a young Jewish boy befriends a rebellious African-American classmate to the disapproval of his privileged family and begins to reckon with growing up in a world of inequality and prejudice.
Olive returns to her high school as it reopens two weeks after the mass shooting that shocked and brutalized this small West Texas town. Olive and her classmates, their parents, and the school's employees and teachers each must find some way to take the first steps to move forward as a community.
