Although Christmas is just around the corner, she quickly moves into the apartment of the young taxi driver Ellie, whom she has just met. When it comes to protecting Ellie's home from illegal demolition, Johanna rediscovers her legal talent. But they are fighting strong opponents: an influential real estate speculator and her willing architects - Ruprecht of all people.

Shortly after Michael and Inga Lehnert and their kids Tommy and Tilly move into their new home in the countryside, Michael causes an accident in which the 20 years old Jule is seriously injured. Tormented by this Michael spends more and more time at the side of her bed in hospital, where she lies in a coma, neglecting his family and job. When Jule finally wakes up, they fall in love. Although her ex-boyfriend warns her that Michael does not realise that Jule is traumatized by a fear of him and will do anything to bind him to her.

The TV documentation reconstructs the incidents between May and November 1989 from the point of view of the Politburo of the GDR (German Democratic Republic). The incidents include the fraud of local elections, the opening of Hungary's borders towards Austria, the ensuing tide of East German refugees to Hungary and Czechoslovakia for transfer to West Germany, the pompous ceremonies at GDR's 40th anniversary, the inept transactions the Politburo took to salvage the situation, the resulting dismissal of their leader Erich Honecker, the international press conference in East Berlin on 9th November 1989, at which Politburo member Günther Schabowski erroneously announced the immediate opening of the 'Iron Curtain', which finally led to the collapse of socialism in the GDR and the other East Bloc countries.

The series, based on the novel by German author James Krüss, tells the story of Timm, the boy who traded in his infectious laugh for the ability to win any bet. The man who did the devilish deal with Timm is wealthy businessman Baron de Lefouet, who is even more successful in business now that he has Timm's engaging laugh to win him friends. Timm, on the other hand, soon realizes that life is not the same without the ability to laugh, and he sets out to find the evil Baron and try to regain the ability to laugh.

24 hours on the border between East and West Germany. In an outlying West Berlin district, police officers chat about their personal lives, take care of petty offence and at most, warn the odd rubbernecker away from the border to the “Soviet zone”. The supervisors demand utmost vigilance and a solid ideological bent, and suspicion and mistrust are the rule within the ranks of these soldiers of the National People’s Army (NVA). Unnoticed by the soldiers, four East Berlin students are preparing to flee to the west. But in the morning mists, only their accomplice, an NVA private, succeeds …
