日本でも3度アニメ化されたフランスの名作児童文学「家なき子」を実写映画化。南フランスの農村で暮らす11歳の少年レミは、優しい母と貧しいながらも幸せな毎日を送っていた。そんなある日、長い間パリへ出稼ぎに出ていた義父により、レミは旅芸人の親方ヴィタリスに売り飛ばされてしまう。情の深い親方に歌の才能を見いだされたレミは、犬のカピや猿のジョリクールと親交を深めながら、ひたむきに旅を続けていく。オーディションで選出されたマロム・パキンが主人公レミを演じ、美しい歌声も披露。「隠された記憶」のダニエル・オートゥイユ、「8人の女たち」のリュディビーヌ・サニエ、「ニュー・シネマ・パラダイス」のジャック・ペランが脇を固める。
