飲料水会社に務める普通のOL千波。仕事が忙しい恋人の佳介は部屋に来てくれてもすぐに眠ってしまい、千波は寂しい思いを募らせていた。そんなとき、千波は異動してきたばかりの桑村に食事に誘われる。妻子のいる桑村のさりげない優しさに触れるうち、千波は体も心も桑村へと吸い寄せられていく。

The movie revolves around Mitsuba, who studies traditional art of rakugo. Rakugo is a form of comical story telling, sometimes referred to as sit-down comedy. Even though Mitsuba is mediocre at best, he ends up teaching three students.

He is Kikuji Murao (Etsushi Toyokawa), a former best-selling novelist who has had a decade-long dry spell that has reduced him to university teaching and magazine hackery. After divorcing his wife (Reiko Takashima) and leaving behind his teenage daughter (Shihori Kanjiya), he meets Fuyuka Irie (Shinobu Terajima), a housewife and mother of three who is a longtime fan.

In the 21st century, a nuclear war turned most of the Earth's surface into a desert wasteland, which also resulted in the contamination of the Earth's water supply. A man named Sanga has built the fortified haven of the "Last Land", where he rules as its dictator by monopolizing the city's uncontaminated water supply. When he learns that the neighboring residents of Freedom Village are trying to dig up a well for their own, Sanga sends his underlings to sabotage their effort. Kenshiro, master of Hokuto Shinken, gets involved in the conflict between the two regions after saving Tobi, an informant hired by Freedom Village.

原宿に事務所を持つ建築家の伊織祥一郎は、妻と娘と別居中の身でありながら、秘書の相沢笙子と不倫関係にあった。祥一郎はある日、かつて教え子だった高村霞と再会し、やがて愛し合うようになっていく。だが霞には、年の離れた夫とその連れ子がいたのだった。祥一郎の変化に気づいた笙子は、同じ事務所の宮津と浮気をするが、祥一郎はますます霞におぼれていく。やがて祥一郎と妻との離婚が成立、笙子は宮津と結婚することになった。祥一郎は霞とスペインへ行く約束を交わし空港で待つが、霞は姿を現さなかった。霞の義理の娘であるかおりが祥一郎のもとを訪れ、二人の関係が霞の夫に知られたことを告げた。
