青森県鯵ヶ沢町でイカ焼き屋「きくや」を営むセツ子は、たくさんの捨て犬を保護して、世話をしていた。店は犬を可愛がる子供たちが集まり、特に小学生のアキラは犬が大好きだった。ある日、白いライオンのような犬が町で見かけられるようになる。独特の風貌から町の人々は犬を「わさお」と呼んでいたが、食べ物を与えようとしても、なかなか近付いてこない。しかし、セツ子は、わさおの視線の先に、常にアキラがいる事に気がつく。

一夜の宿を求めてさまよう蟲師のギンコ（オダギリジョー）は、ようやくたどり着いた庄屋で荷をほどいていると、庄屋夫人（りりィ）が片耳の聴力を失った3人の患者の診療を頼みにきた。そして、患者の耳の穴を覗いたギンコは、そこにカタツムリのような形をした、音を喰う“蟲”が付着しているのを見つけ、駆除に取りかかる。

Shinnosuke and Misawa are joint managers of a Bonsai shop. Suddenly Shinnosuke's childhood friend Haruko turns up. She has split up with her boyfriend and finds herself out on the streets. Shinnosuke starts to like her and really wants to cheer her up, but he can't manage to express his real feelings or stop picking up other women.
