武州多摩の百姓の出である土方歳三。黒船が来航し開国を要求した江戸時代末期に、彼は“武士になりたい”という思いを胸に、近藤勇、沖田総司らと京都へ向かう。彼らは徳川幕府の後ろ盾のもと、新選組を結成し、土方は討幕派勢力制圧で多大なる活躍をみせる。

幼くして豊臣秀吉に才を認められた石田三成。やがて大名に取り立てられた三成は、自分の石高の半分を持って、猛将として名を馳せた牢人の左近を家来に請う。秀吉に忠誠を誓いながらも利害によって天下を治めることに疑問を抱き、正義で世の中を変えようとする三成の姿に興味を持った左近は二つ返事で配下に入る。一方、秀吉の体調がおもわしくない中、天下取りの野望を描く家康は秀吉恩顧の武将たちに言葉巧みに取り入っていく。

1865年京都。新選組は新たに隊士を募集し多くの志願者が集まる中、一際異彩を放つ美少年がいた。加納惣三郎と名乗るその青年は剣豪・沖田総司をも手こずらせる程の剣の腕の持ち主だった。そして、もう一人、加納と双璧をなす程の剣の腕の持ち主・田代彪蔵の二人が入隊を許可された。しかし、この二人の入隊によって新選組内部の空気は少しずつ変わっていくことになる。田代は衆道（男色）の気を持つ男であり、惣三郎を衆道に引きずり込もうとしていた。そんな中、惣三郎に密かに想いを寄せていた隊士・湯沢藤次郎が何者かによって惨殺される。土方は湯沢の恋敵であった人間が斬ったのではないかと疑い始める。

天正9年、織田信長率いる軍勢によって伊賀の全土は焼き払われ、大勢が虐殺される運命に。それから10年後、辛うじて生き残り、山奥で隠遁生活を送っていた伊賀忍者のひとり、葛籠重蔵は、堺の豪商・今井宗久から密命を受け、織田亡き後に時の権力者となった豊臣秀吉の暗殺計画に乗り出す。それを阻止すべく彼の前に立ちはだかったのは、かつては仲間だったが今や伊賀ではなくなり、武士として出世を望む風間五平だったが……？

The story of Ryoma Sakamoto, considered to be the architect behind the downfall of the Tokugawa shogunate. He was considered an outlaw by his own clan, hunted by his government, and was despised by supporters of the Shogun as well as the Loyalists for desiring the opening of Japan to the West in order to learn its technology, in the hopes of one day defeating the West with a modern army and navy.

The Shinobi-no-Mono series was so successful that Daiei Studios dipped into the well one more time, making the best 60′s B&W ninja movie ever seen in the otherwise color-dominated year of 1970. Issei Mori directs Hiroki Matsukata as the reluctant leader of a small band of spies charged with kidnapping a noblewoman from a heavily ninja-proofed castle.
