コペンハーゲン警察の特別部署「特捜部Q」で未解決事件の残務処理に当たるはみだし者の刑事カールと相棒のアサド、そして、そこへ新たに配属された女性秘書のローセ。彼らは、20年前、名門寄宿舎学校の近くで起きた、とある惨殺事件を再調査することに。事件は、容疑者の逮捕で一件落着とされていたものの、男はその後早々に釈放され、また、事件の通報者たる少女が失踪して今なお消息不明など、不審な点が数多く残されていた。

In a quirky, small town, situated in the outskirts of everything, 14-year-old Martin is getting ready for one of the most formal transitions from boy to man; the communion. But in the midst of it all Martin's mother suddenly passes away and her tragic death trickers a series of events that not only changes Martin's life forever, but also affects everyone else in the local community. Eventually he meets Maria, a poor woman who is willing to give away the child she is carrying in exchange for money. A Danish officer, Michael, is sent away to the International Security Assistance Force operation in Afghanistan for three months.
