ロサンゼルス市警のドレビン刑事は、自分が有能なタフガイだと信じるが実はそれほどでもなく、むしろトラブルメーカーになりがちだ。そんなとき、ロサンゼルスを英国のエリザベス女王が来訪する。一方、ドレビンはヘロイン密輸事件を捜査していてある財閥を調べるが、その過程で知り合った美女ジェーンと親密になり、彼女と恋に落ちてしまう。やがてドレビンは、何者かがエリザベス女王の暗殺計画を進行させていると気付く。
